Job Scope:
Sets the direction and leads the implementation and operation of the campus-wide information security program to safeguard the confidential information, assets, and intellectual property belonging to The University of Texas-Pan American and associated relationships.
This is a proactive leadership position responsible for ensuring that the University complies with all relevant statutes and policies, for communicating them to others, and for determining the direction of the institution's information security program. The CISO is a member of the senior IT management team and as such is responsible for briefing university executives on security matters. He or she must possess the necessary communications skills (written and public speaking) to advocate and promulgate security awareness within the whole University community.
The CISO will develop, administer, and execute a comprehensive information security program whose elements will include policy, procedures, guidelines, security architectures, risk assessments, disaster recovery, and business continuity, in order to protect the information assets of the University and ensure compliance with UTPA, UT System, state, and federal laws and regulations. Additionally the CISO serves as the interface with local, state, and federal law enforcement for information security-related issues.
